My Kind of Chefs was founded by Executive Chef Steve Abeysinghe, who wholeheartedly believes that restaurant-quality gourmet food belongs in every off-site catering setting, not just in hatted boutique restaurants-and we’re thrilled to bring that to you.

During Steve’s passionate quest for authentic, modern Australian and Sri Lankan gourmet cuisine, he noticed that much of the catering for private functions in Melbourne was plagued by stale, packaged, and waxy food that lacked flavour. It had unfortunately become the standard.

Determined to change that, Steve combined his love for honest modern Australian food into a delicious business venture. He set out to create a boutique catering business that would not only serve the community but also revolutionise Melbourne’s catering scene for the better.
A visionary who brought it all together.
As one of Melbourne’s most creative culinary minds, Steve brings over 25 years of hospitality experience to ‘My Kind of Chefs’. Throughout his career, Steve has held various food service executive and kitchen management roles, including banquet coordination and production at some of the world’s finest five-star hotels and hatted restaurants across Asia, the Middle East, and Melbourne.

Originally hailing from the beautiful island of Sri Lanka, Steve left behind an established culinary career to make his mark as a renowned chef in Australia. After earning his formal qualification in Commercial Cookery here, Steve quickly rose through the ranks, collaborating with Melbourne’s top chefs and restaurateurs at award-winning establishments.

At ‘My Kind of Chefs’, Steve may be the visionary, but it’s our talented team of dedicated chefs that brings that vision to life, day in and day out. Each chef brings their own unique flair, expertise, and passion to the table, working together to craft exceptional dishes that showcase the best of what we do. From preparing fresh ingredients to delivering flavours that linger, our team is the heart and soul of our kitchen, ensuring every event is a culinary success.

Behind the spinning gears and cogs of ‘My Kind of Chefs’ is a vibrant team of passionate, multi-discipline professionals, roped in from a cross section of the culinary and hospitality industry at all tiers of the company’s value chain - who couldn't be more diverse even if they tried.
Like most culinary entrepreneurs, we floated our business with one big goal in mind; to create a catering service that provide honest gourmet food paired with concierge-level service to the discerning food aficionados of Melbourne.

Somewhere along the way, things got a bit different. We soon realized, running a catering business is also a lot like starting a family. For us at ‘My Kind of Chefs’, it's not all about the money; money is good, but values are great! It's more about the values…, about the people we work with and the customers we serve.  It's about our team members; who have gone from being our contract staff to trusted friends and neighbours.
